Prince of Peace
Jesus Christ is called the prince of peace.
This prophecy was given to him by Isaiah, who was chosen by the Lord. Scripture states:
- Isaiah 9:6 (KJV): “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Thus, Jesus was predestined to be the Prince of Peace on earth.
A prince is someone who will one day be king.
Jesus is called the Prince of Peace because it is the very nature of his assignment on earth. One of the powerful acts that was performed to fulfill this prophecy is that Jesus Christ took the form of a human to bear our sins on the cross and die for us. This way he was the mediator between humans and God the Father (Jehovah) so we will not perish but have everlasting life if we believe in him.
- John 14:6 (KJV): “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
So He restored the peace between God the Father and humans through the new covenant, he brought peace on earth while he was there.
He was glorified and seated at the right hand of God, thus becoming King
- 1 Peter 3:22 (KJV): “Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.”
So this verse makes it clear that once he was seated at the right hand of God, he became the king. Everything is subjected to Him.
Jesus Christ is even referred to as the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who will rule the nations with a rod of iron.
- Revelation 19:15-16 (KJV): “15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.
Kings rule over lands and nations. Thus, at the time of prophecy he was to be the Prince of Peace on earth. And he certainly fulfilled that role. Amen.
